On October 15, netizens posted a video exposing that when the Leiyang People’s Hospital in Hunan Province conducted physical examinations for public officials, ordinary citizens were not allowed to enter, and citizens were told to come back the next day if there was an emergency. On October 16, a staff member of the Leiyang People’s Hospital responded to an interview with a reporter from Runliu News: “It is not a physical examination for public officials, but a physical examination for retired cadres. Old cadres have high requirements and bad tempers, so we should be tolerant.”
In the video, many citizens wanted to enter the hospital’s health management center for a physical examination. A medical staff member stood at the glass door and prevented everyone from entering, claiming that “everyone who had a physical examination inside had been tested, and it must be completely closed.” Citizens questioned: “Is our physical examination different?” The medical staff emphasized again: “No, it is completely closed.” They told the citizens waiting outside the door that if there was an emergency, they could come the next day or at other times.
One of the men said: “The day before yesterday, they asked me to come today, and today they asked me to come tomorrow. Is it possible that people in the hospital are infected with each other? Why can’t we have a physical examination together?” After saying that, the man angrily pushed the door and entered the hospital’s health management center. The medical staff followed behind and said: “You can’t do this…” The man said that the People’s Hospital serves everyone and should not have privileges.
On October 16, a staff member of Leiyang People’s Hospital responded in an interview with our reporter: “We also received this situation reported by citizens on the morning of the 16th. We have explained to the complainant that the physical examination is not for current public officials, but for retired cadres in Leiyang. Old cadres may have high requirements and bad tempers, and don’t want others to compete with them for positions, so they should be tolerant.”
The staff member also said that she didn’t know the specific situation. She learned from her colleagues at the Health Management Center that the three days from October 14 to 16 were physical examinations for old cadres, and they needed to be on duty before 7:30. The staff member told reporters that the physical examination of old cadres had ended on the morning of the 16th, and citizens could have normal physical examinations.
